Sapphire Tide: Four Apartments on Houghton Drive, Above Bakoven Beach
Sapphire Tide sits above Bakoven Beach, one of the quieter and more beautiful stretches of coastline along the Atlantic Seaboard. Bakoven sits between the energy of Camps Bay and the remoteness of Llandudno, which gives the building a particular quality: close to everything, with a sense of distance from the noise of it.
From Ground Floor to Penthouse
The four apartments range from the ground-floor units to the Penthouse, which occupies the top floor with uninterrupted panoramic views across the Atlantic from virtually every room. Each unit has been designed with the same principles in mind: generous light, considered interiors, and an indoor/outdoor flow that makes the Cape Town coastline feel like an extension of the living space rather than something to admire from a distance.
The Penthouse: Camps Bay’s Newest Ocean-View Retreat
The Penthouse is the first of the four Sapphire Tide units to join the collection, and it sets the tone for everything the building stands for.
Two Ensuite Bedrooms with Sea and Mountain Views
Two beautifully appointed ensuite bedrooms, each with sea and mountain views. A master suite with a king-size bed, a spacious ensuite bathroom with a full bath, double shower and double vanity, and its own air conditioning. The second bedroom offers twin beds that convert to a king, making the Penthouse equally suited to couples, friends, or a small family.
Open-Plan Living, Dining and Kitchen
At the heart of the apartment, the open-plan living and dining area is designed for gathering. A gas fireplace for the evenings, floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto the private balcony, and Atlantic views that shift through every light from morning to dusk. The kitchen is fully equipped, with an electric hob, Nespresso machine, dishwasher, and separate washer and dryer.
Private Pool and Outdoor Living
Outside, a private pool, sun loungers, and a gas barbeque invite the kind of afternoon that stretches into evening without anyone minding. Bakoven Beach is moments away on foot. The Camps Bay promenade, the tidal pool, and the daily mobile sauna are a short stroll from the door.
What We Love About It
The view from the balcony at different times of day is genuinely one of those things that keeps catching you. The morning light on the water, the way the Twelve Apostles hold the last of the afternoon sun, the Atlantic in the dark with the city lights behind you.
The gas fireplace inside, paired with the balcony outside, means the apartment works beautifully in both the winter months and the warmer seasons. It is the kind of space that changes character without losing its quality.
And the location is one we are particularly fond of. Bakoven sits just far enough from the Camps Bay strip to feel private, while still being close enough to walk to dinner, to the tidal pool, to the beach. It is a very particular version of Camps Bay living.
