There’s a stretch of Camps Bay just beyond the palm-lined strip, where the road bends south towards Bakoven and the crowds thin out. That’s where Blue Ocean lives.

Blue Ocean is our newest address: four new luxury apartments in Camps Bay under one name, at 5 Victoria Road. Some have sea views and private pools. Others are compact, calm and made for two. Together they cover almost every kind of Cape Town stay, from a long weekend for a couple to a family holiday for ten.

A quieter side of Camps Bay

You still get the best of Camps Bay here. The beach, the restaurants on the strip and the sundowner spots are a few minutes away. Bakoven Beach is a short walk. Clifton, the V&A Waterfront and the city are all close.

The difference is the pace. Mornings are quiet, evenings are slow, and you go home to somewhere that feels like a retreat rather than a hotel corridor.

All four apartments share a road-level arrival area, and each has its own entrance. They also have inverter backup for lights and Wi-Fi, so load shedding won’t interrupt a work call or a film night.

Blue Ocean Penthouse: sea views and room for ten

The Penthouse is the one for big gatherings. Five bedrooms, all ensuite, with one king and four queen beds. The main suite faces the sea, with its own balcony and a bath for long, slow evenings.

Upstairs is where everyone ends up. The lounge has a gas fireplace for cool nights. The kitchen opens onto a terrace with a private pool, a gas braai and an outdoor table that seats the whole group. Four bedrooms sit on the lower level and the fifth is on the top floor, so everyone gets their own space.

There’s a dedicated workspace, a desk in every bedroom, air conditioning that heats and cools, and parking for four cars.

It is spread over several floors with no lift, so it isn’t the right fit for guests who find stairs difficult.

Blue Ocean Residence: four bedrooms and a private pool

The Residence is a little more intimate, and many guests like it better for that. It sleeps eight across four ensuite bedrooms, with a king bed and three queens. The main bedroom faces the sea and opens onto a balcony. Two other bedrooms have partial sea views.

The living area, kitchen and pool all sit on the top level, along with a gas braai and outdoor dining, so the day naturally drifts upstairs. The gas fireplace takes care of winter. The kitchen is properly equipped, with a dishwasher and a Nespresso machine, and there’s a washer-dryer on the bedroom level. The double garage has a remote.

You should know a few things before booking. The pool isn’t heated and isn’t fenced, so families with small children will want to plan around that. Stairs run throughout the apartment, around 15 up to the living area and 25 down to the lower bedrooms, and there’s no lift. We can provide a crib and a high chair.

Blue Ocean Suite: a calm base for two

The Suite is made for couples. A king bed, a bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette, a desk, air conditioning and a safe, with a private patio to step out onto in the morning.

It’s an honest, comfortable apartment, and it isn’t pretending to be anything else. It has no sea view and it’s not a bright space, which suits people who spend their days at the beach and want a quiet, cool place to come back to. It’s on the ground floor with no steps inside, and it’s wheelchair friendly. Parking is on the street along Victoria Road.

Blue Ocean Lodge: a studio for short stays

The Lodge is a studio with a king bed, a shower bathroom and a kitchenette with a gas stove, a fridge-freezer and a Nespresso machine. It has a courtyard instead of a patio, a desk and air conditioning.

Like the Suite, it has no view and it isn’t bright. It’s also on the ground floor, wheelchair friendly, with street parking. It’s a good fit for solo travellers, remote workers and couples who want a simple, well-priced stay close to the beach.

For a family holiday or a group of friends, choose the Penthouse or the Residence. The Penthouse has more beds, more space and more parking. The Residence is smaller and more private. Our guide to family-friendly villas in Camps Bay goes into the detail on pools, cots and stairs.

For a couple’s trip, a work stay or a few nights by the sea, choose the Suite or the Lodge. If anyone in your party can’t manage stairs, these two are also the easier choice.
