The best family-friendly villa in Camps Bay is the one that fits how your family actually travels. A holiday with a toddler is a different job from a holiday with three teenagers and two sets of grandparents.

This guide groups the Bliss Collection’s family homes by that kind of trip. For each one I’ve said what works and what to check first, because a villa that looks perfect in photos can still have a pool or a staircase you need to plan around.

What makes a villa family-friendly

A pool and a sea view are the easy part. Before you book, these are the things worth looking at:

  • Bathrooms. Four people using one bathroom is nobody’s idea of a holiday. Ensuite bedrooms matter more than almost anything else.
  • Stairs and lifts. Prams, tired toddlers and grandparents all make stairs a real factor.
  • The pool. A private pool is great for families. It also needs a plan if you have small children.
  • A kitchen you can cook in. Eating out for every meal gets expensive and tiring.
  • How close the beach is. The shorter the walk, the easier the day.
  • Cots and high chairs. Ask early, because availability varies by home.

Children are welcome at every one of our properties. This FAQ covers the detail.

Best for young children: Lillamton and Boulder Views

Both of these sit directly above Barley Beach, between Bakoven and Camps Bay. Both are in buildings with a lift, which makes life easier with a pram and a handful of beach bags. Both offer a cot, free of charge, on request. Each sleeps six, and each has a private pool.

Lillamton has three bedrooms with a king and two queen beds, and every bedroom has its own ensuite shower. It has sea and mountain views, a private balcony off the lounge, a gas barbecue, a dishwasher and a washer.

Boulder Views has uninterrupted Atlantic views, a king, a queen and a second king that can be set up as two singles if you ask us in advance. It has a patio with outdoor furniture, a washing machine, and air conditioning and heating in the bedrooms and living area.

Best for a family of four: Solstice

Solstice is a two-bedroom oceanfront apartment, directly above Barley Beach. It has a private pool on the ocean-facing terrace, a gas barbecue, a designer kitchen and a lift from the secure parking.

It sleeps four, with one ensuite and one other bathroom. That suits a couple with two children, but it’s less comfortable with two teenagers who each want their own bathroom.

Best for older children and teenagers: Sea and Stone Villa

Sea and Stone Villa gives a family room to spread out. It’s a hillside villa with three ensuite bedrooms, each with air conditioning and sea views. It has a private pool in a landscaped garden, a large sun deck, a TV lounge, a separate study and two kitchens. The Atlantic, Lion’s Head and the Twelve Apostles are all in view.

Teenagers can take over the TV lounge while parents sit by the fireplace in the main living area. It sleeps six and has a double garage. Camps Bay and Clifton beaches are both within walking distance.

The villa is built into the hillside and the pool deck is elevated, so ask us about the layout if you have a toddler or anyone who struggles with steps.

Best for two families sharing: Vive One, Vive Two and the Blue Ocean Residence

Sharing a house works when everyone has their own bathroom and there’s somewhere for the adults to sit after the children are asleep. These three sleep eight across four bedrooms and have a private pool.

Vive Two has a king-bedded main suite with a balcony and three queen bedrooms, all ensuite. It has panoramic sea and mountain views, a gas hob, a barbecue and dining for eight. There’s a wood-burning fireplace for winter.

Vive One has four ensuite bedrooms, a private terrace with a pool, a barbecue and outdoor dining, and a main suite that opens onto a balcony with panoramic views. It also has a fireplace in the open-plan living area.

The Blue Ocean Residence sleeps eight with a king and three queens, all ensuite. It has a private pool, a gas braai and outdoor dining, a washer-dryer and a double garage. We can supply a free crib and a high chair.

The Residence has stairs throughout and no lift, and the pool is unfenced and unheated. That’s fine for school-age children and teenagers. For toddlers, you’ll want to plan around it.

Best for a big family reunion: Blue Ocean Penthouse

The Blue Ocean Penthouse sleeps ten across five ensuite bedrooms, with one king and four queens. It has sea views, a private pool on the top level next to the terrace, a gas braai and an outdoor table big enough for everyone. There’s parking for four cars.

Three generations can all stay under one roof. The living areas are at the top and most bedrooms are below, with no lift, so it suits families who are comfortable with stairs.

It is one of four new apartments at Blue Ocean, at the quiet Bakoven end of Camps Bay.

If you’d rather have a jacuzzi than a pool

Satori One and Satori Two don’t have swimming pools. Each has a private terrace with a jacuzzi overlooking the Camps Bay strip. They sleep six across three ensuite bedrooms, have a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities, and sit a few minutes from the beach.

For some families, no pool is the whole point. Satori One also has a wood-burning fireplace in the living area, which makes it a good winter choice.

Swimming and days out with children

You do not need a private pool to keep children busy here. The Camps Bay tidal pool is the safest swimming in the area and the water is warmer than the sea. Maiden’s Cove has sheltered tidal pools and lawns for a picnic, and Camps Bay Beach itself is Blue Flag with lifeguards in season.

We have pulled the rest together under family friendly things to do in the area, and can you swim in the sea at Camps Bay answers the question most parents ask first.

Questions to ask before you book

Every family is different, so it’s worth asking a few things up front:

  • Is the pool fenced or covered, and how close is it to the main living area?
  • How many steps are there, and is there a lift?
  • Do you have a cot or high chair available for my dates?
  • Are the balconies and terraces suitable for small children?

Send us your dates and tell us who’s travelling, including ages, and we’ll tell you honestly which home we’d pick.

Good to know

All of our family homes are non-smoking indoors. Most have quiet hours from 10pm and don’t allow parties or events. Guest ID verification is needed before check-in, and some homes need a refundable deposit.
